The Tear Up! MMA Bristol

The Tillery Combat MMA team were competing yet again over the past few  weeks. The first event saw five of the team compete in "The Tear Up" Mixed Martial Art event held in Bristol on November 22nd. Nathan Owen (Guillotine Choke}, Kris Edwards (Rear Naked Choke), Joel Reed (Judges Decision) and Ryan Phelps (Arm Bar) all secured excellent victories. Anthony Johnson lost via a 2nd round submission in a fight which he took at 24 hours notice, but put up a outstanding performance. On 6th December Nathan Owens and Christian Tetly both travelled to Nantyglo to take part in the Grapple & Strike Christmas Cup 8 man tournament. Nathan lost via judges decision in the semi final. Despite the loss Nathan was outstanding in both fights. Christian Tetley went one better by winning all three of his bouts and securing the Christmas Cup Title. Coach Richard Shore said "The progression of the team over the last 12 months has been incredible. We are becoming one of the most successful fight teams in the UK and have fighters now competing at amateur, semi professional and professional rules events on a monthly bass. 2010 will bring even greater success."

After a very successful 2009 Tillery Combat MMA were hoping to start 2010 in the same fashion. The MMA team took ten fighters to compete in the Ready to Rage mixed martial arts event in Newport.
The show started with five of the team taking part in amateur bouts. Kyle Prosser, John Price and Shain Paul all lost their bouts but can be proud of their performance and will get better with experience. Gareth Powell won via juges decision and Christian Tetly remained unbeaten in MMA with a quick submission win via guillotine choke. Next up were the Semi Professional bouts with Ryan Phelps winning via armbar, Matt McCarthy winning via rear naked choke and Kris Edwards winning via referees stoppage due to strikes. Jack Marshman and Martin McDonough both made their professional fighting debuts. Jack won his bout via TKO against a much more experienced French fighter with fourteen professional bouts on his record. Martin was involved in the fight of the evening. He also took on a more experienced French opponent and took victory with 2nd round stoppage due to ground & pound. Coach Richard Shore said " What a great way to start the year. The team just gets bigger and better every month. Our results are on a par with anyone on the MMA scene and we now have nine fighters competing at professional level MMA . We are starting to establish ourselves as one of the best MMA teams in the UK, and as a coach I am so proud of how we are developing."
